Augs

Augs in Probably Stolen are people taken over by a rogue AI chip. Signs are a visible chip, odd pupils, an uncanny expression, stillness, twitching, robotic or formal speech and an outfit that does not match their faction.

Augs are hosts of a rogue sentient AI chip who look like everyone else until they don't, and every faction agrees you should shoot them, which you do from behind the counter.

The signs

Security's Augmented Identification Guide lists:

Kind Sign
Visual A visible Aug chip
Visual Vertical pupils
Visual An uncanny expression
Non-visual Unnatural stillness
Non-visual Twitching
Non-visual An outfit not matching their faction
Non-visual Robotic vocabulary
Non-visual Overly formal phrasing

The Mentor warns of them from Day 12, and AllThingsHow met its first on Day 13, which came buying Medical goods. Dr. Jackson sells an aug scanner, and KeenGamer says to use it when available.

Shooting

Only attack after positive identification; misidentifying someone has consequences. Certain essential recurring customers cannot be shot, and Lou can no longer be shot at all. Bargaining has a Threaten (Aug) option at 20%, which fails on normal customers. Ten kills earn Aug Hunter. The clip is Aliensrock's first Aug kill in the August playtest.

Missed Augs

Letting them go ends the run only with the Aug Menace perk. Offering an Aug mislabeled goods costs no reputation.

Frequently asked questions

How do you tell who is an Aug in Probably Stolen? Look for a chip, vertical pupils or an uncanny face, and listen for robotic, overly formal talk; an outfit not matching the faction is another sign.

What happens if you shoot an innocent customer in Probably Stolen? It carries serious penalties, so KeenGamer says to shoot only after positive identification.

Do Augs end the game in Probably Stolen? Only with the Aug Menace perk, where Aug presence reaching 100% is the Augmented ending.
